League Rules
- A team match consists of 3 singles positions, called “A” “B” and “C”
singles. Matches are singles only with a co-ed format.
- Scoring is a “mini-set,” first to 4 games. At 3-3, a tie-breaker will
be played. The tie-breaker used is a “set tie-breaker,” first to seven.
The only difference is you win by one, meaning at 6-6 you will only play
one more point (sudden death).
- Points can be started with an overhand serve, or underhand serve. All
underhand serves must be hit in the air. A drop hit (letting the ball
bounce first) is not considered a legal serve in tennis.
- Court size is 36’ x 18’, laid out sideways on a regular court.
- Balls used are the red ball, which is foam or oversize felt ball.
Rackets are limited to 23” or less.
- Court monitors - will be used to make sure the kids keep the score
correctly and are calling fair lines. Adults or older junior players may
be used as court monitors. Major emphasis will be on sportsmanship first,
not winning. No matches will be played without a court monitor observing
the match.
- Line calls and scoring - kids will be expected to call their own lines
and keep up with score. The server will call the score out before the
start of each point.
- Exhibition matches - if there are more than 3 kids on each team, we
will play “exhibition matches” that do not count towards the overall team
score. The idea is to let every kid play every week.
- All scores will be entered in TennisLink by the captains the same as
regular JTL.
