Immediately after Captains’ Meeting
- Call all players on roster.
- Give your phone
number(s) & email address. Collect contact information.
- Give dates of matches.
- Collect player
unavailable dates
- Determine best way to
communicate (call during evening, email, cell phone).
- Ask for money to
purchase balls (bring to 1st match) or bring cans of balls - “USTA
approved”.
- Contact home match facility
and verify match dates.
- Contact coach/pro to get
advice on line-ups. Remember to rotate all players.
- Purchase USTA approved balls.
Week Leading to Match
- If you have a designated
captain replacement, inform them of all pertinent information.
Pass along captain folder and remind designated captain to READ info in
folder.
- Reminder calls to scheduled
players – what time to arrive, check-in with captain upon arrival.
- Make a few copies of
“Behavior Guidelines for Parents” to pass out to parents at 1st match.
- Call opposing captain 2-4
days prior to match.
- Confirm number of
players – Any possible defaults?
- Confirm directions to
the home facility.
- Exchange phone
numbers.
- If needed, contact
pro/coach for help with line-up.
- Print out a blank scorecard
and write in the names of your players
Match Day!
- Everyone arrives promptly
at 1:45 p.m.
- Check with facility to
see what courts are assigned to your teams.
- Captains exchange
line-ups simultaneously before play begins – discuss defaults &
player/number problems you may have.
- Decide who plays first
– inform players.
- Remind players of good
sportsmanship & honest line calls.
- Players on courts at 2:00
p.m. – Warm-up for 5 minutes – Match begins at 2:05 p.m.
- Parents and captains must be
off courts - Pass out “Behavior Guidelines for Parents” at 1st match.
- Captains only may
assist 10 & Under and 12 & Under division players during 1st 3
weeks of play
(help in scoring, rotation of serve, etc).
- Captains only may
assist with the tiebreak in all groups –
In older age groups, you may explain tiebreak one time and then leave the
court.
- Players need to
resolve score issues.
Post-match
- At end of match: scores are
reported to both captains, scorecards are completely filled out, both team
captains must agree on the scorecards before leaving.
- Winning team captain enters
scores in TennisLink within 48 hours after match is completed.
- Winning team captain
e-mails/calls match results to Augusta Chronicle: tip! cut and paste from Tennislink….
- 2nd place team captain
verifies scores in TennisLink within 48 hours after match is completed.
Reminders:
- All matches are 8-game,
no-add pro sets (1st player to win 8 games by a 2-game margin) with a
tiebreak at 8-8.
“Refer to Junior League Rules”
- When scoring a tiebreak, you
count the tkebreak as a game. The score is
entered into TennisLink as '9-8'.
- Rotate your team members
equally! Let them all have a chance to play each position (see rules)!
